What is an LCD?

The LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) displays the image on your phone using the same technology as most flat screen TV’s. LCD units are generally very fragile and susceptible to damage.

Common faults / issues with LCDs include:

  • Screen looking washed out, very dull colours and less clarity then usual
  • Dead pixels - When a pixel on the LCD no longer works, usually visible on a white background it will be a tiny black square
  • Stuck Pixel - When a pixel is stuck on a colour, usually visible on any background and will generally be stuck on white, green, blue or red.
  • No backlight - When the back light on the LCD fails the picture can be very hard to see.
  • Lines on the LCD - these can be a verity of coloured lines displaying horizontally or vertically
  • Damaged LCD, generally damaged LCDs can be bruised, cracked or "bleeding" when a black liquid is visible over the picture
  • In modern touch screen devices digitizers are fitted over the LCD and respond to touch, these are separate to the LCD, replacing the LCD wont cure issues with the touch panel.
What is a Digitizer?

The Digitizer is the touch panel that sits over the LCD screen. The digitizers job is to detect and map your fingers movements across the screen and let the phone know where your finger is.
The digitizer panel is a clear panel, usually bonded underneath or inside the front glass or plastic the sits on top of the LCD, they rarely malfunction but are very susceptible to impact damage, scratches and cracks

Common faults / issues with digitizers include:

  • Touch panel no longer responding - if you can se the picture ok but the device is not responding to touch
  • Touching the panel causes unexpected or erratic movements - this will require a replacement digitizer or re-calibration is available on the device
  • Impact damage - glass digitizers are very easily damaged, generally the will crack or shatter - depending on the extent of the damage it may still work but in not advisable due to safety.
  • Scratches - plastic digitizers are very susceptible to scratches, several light scratches build up making the phone look tatty and harder to view

As the digitizer panel sits directly above the LCD panel some impact damage can also cause damage to the LCD.
The general rule is that if the screen is cracked but the picture device is displaying a picture as normal you will just need to replace the digitizer.

Parts Origin - OEM

The term OEM stands for 'Original Equipment Manufacturer', the exact meaning differs in several industries.

To us, OEM means that the part is the same part used within your device, using the same materials and specifications.

We use the term OEM to cover many parts from refurbished, used and new components, the exact condition will be stated in the items description.

In some cases when the part supplied is made up to several components (for example an LCD assembly) the part may have been assembled by a 3rd party vendor using OEM parts meaning that consumable may differ (such as adhesive used)

Although strict testing procedures are put in place to ensure the quality of the part these testing practices and procedures may differ from the checks manufacturers use.

Any hardware supplied as OEM will not have any quality loss or loss of features and covered under our extensive returns policy.

As in many cases we dont obtain directly from the devices manufacturer, nor in some cases are we affiliated with device manufacturer in any way and they are not involved in the testing or sales process of the component we sell.

I purchased this screen from replacebase 02/07/2016. It was fairly straightforward to replace, other videos show a LCD screen transfer process, but with the case and screen it is pretty much a complete component transfer. The overall quality of the screen is good and I would use Replacebase again, however I did notice 3 bright spots near the bottom edges of the screen, now I do not know if this was caused by myself during the repair process or a faulty screen but just wanted to highlight this issue incase others have experienced it.

The delivery was the following day from order. The parts were as described and very good quality. Bit of a fiddle dismantling and fitting, but it worked out perfectly. It is now like a new phone.

Couldn't be more pleased! Part is OEM and fits and works perfectly, the frame and screen come fitted together therefore its simple to reassemble. Next day Delivery during the Christmas period was just amazing. Many Thanks!

Like the previous reviewer, I was looking for a replacement screen on ebay initially. I even went as far as buying a generic one, which when recieved, was of terrible quality, and was stamped on the front with the OEM manufacturer's name. Not what I wanted on the front of my G3. I returned that screen, and as soon as I found Replace Base, and the previous reviewer's comments, I immediately bought this replacement screen from them. There are various video tutorials on Youtube, talking through the replacement of the whole screen, including removing all the various parts etc, and then putting them back after fitting this LCD assembly. This assembly even comes with all the little sticky parts ready applied - just peel off their covers, and you can fit the parts straight into place. Yes this one is more expensive, but you get what you pay for, and in this case, your phone will be good as new - rather than 'nearly' new. Next day delivery too! I can thoroughly recommend this company, and this particular replacement part! Many thanks!

Originally i purchased the digitizer as that was the only part needing replacing. Trying to separate the glass from the lcd is a tricky business and i failed. Next was to purchase the whole assembly. Lots of generic screen assemblies on Amazon and Ebay with worrying reviews. Save yourself frustration and money by buying the genuine one from ReplaceBase. The £40 or so extra was money well spent. I scoured the internet for genuine relacement and RelaceBase were very competitive. I have made two previous purchases to date from RelaceBase and as a regular online shopper, i have never had service like this company provide from start to finish. The adminstration and delivery of orders is just amazing. Reviewing from my as good as new LG G3.

Is this Gorilla Glass 3? Would I need to glue this to the main phone body? Or can I just hook up the parts and screw back together?

Does this item include the digitizer, or would a seperate purchase be required?
